Information

Skiros Evias

Skyros is the southernmost island of the Northern Sporades and the largest in area. However, as it is located in the east of Evia, administratively it belongs to Evia. It is embraced by the blue waters of the Aegean and it has an impressive morphology: Rocky mountains alternating with hills full of pine trees, beautiful beaches in the southwest, sheltered bays and caves. Dense vegetation covers mainly the northern part of the island while the trademark of Skyros is its semi-wild horses which live on the southern side of the island and are now threatened with extinction.

In the northern part of the island there are many picturesque villages like Pefkos, Atsitsa, Magazia, Molos. Chora or Chorio is the capital of the island and is perched on the high rock that is located under the Byzantine castle of St. George. You will be impressed by the Cycladic architecture and panoramic views of the coastal villages of Magazia, Molos and Pouria.

Skyros is famous for its ceramics, furniture, and the special internal architecture of its houses. The inhabitants remain faithful to the traditions of the place while still using their unique local dialect.

Skyros is an ideal destination for quiet holidays. It successfully combines the natural landscape of the Sporades with the Cycladic characteristics, offering the best of both worlds.

How to get there:

The transportation to get to the island is easy and doesn’t cost a lot.

  • From Kimi, the ferry will take you to Skyros (30 minutes).
  • Also, the island is connected to Athens and Thessaloniki three times a week.
